Bueno... primero que todo disculparme con mis miles de lectores.... ( -_-u ) por no escribir desde el año pasado... asi que en fin... Feliz Año Nuevo, que el 2009 sea bla bla bla....

Y ahora algo más importante: Feliz Cumpleaños Darwin!!!

Un hombre que aún 200 años después de su nacimiento sigue causando controversia por su teoría evolutiva... si Harriet siguiera viva estaría todavía orgullosa.

Y es que todavía al día de hoy hay muchos escepticos en cuanto a la evolucion... prefiriendo pensar que fue Dios el que creó todo alrededor de unos 10 000 años atrás. Me parece estupido que la gente se mantenga en esa posición negando ejemplos tan obvios como bacterias que evolucionan y se hacen inmunes a medicamentos... o insectos a plaguicidas. El descubrimiento de "Lucy", la Autralopithecus que se asegura vivió hace 3.2 millones de años aproximadamente... organismos unicelulares dando forma a otros de mayor complejidad, etc.

Si muy bonito creer en un ser superior que chasqueo los dedos e hizo la Tierra en 7 días, despues de todo la fantasía no es mala, puesto que a veces nos hace soñar, sin embargo tampoco seamos unos cerrados... las fuerzas que rigen este mundo son la quimica, fisica y biología; la religión solo crea limites morales... aunque a veces se desvíe de ese mismo camino moral para conseguir obediencia absoluta.

No quiero encender el mundo en llamas

Ese es el titulo de la canción de The Ink Spots que forma parte del repertorio de Galaxy News Radio una de las 2 estaciones más activas de Maryland, Virginia y Washington DC. El titulo parece ser un recordatorio del estado en el que se encuentra el mundo post apocalíptico de Fallout 3, que a pesar de ser una tierra desolada, árida y en ruinas, tiene mucho por ofrecer.

El juego inicia con nuestro nacimiento, luego vienen los primeros pasos y nuestro crecimiento dentro de la bóveda 101, una de muchas construidas para proveer refugio a la humanidad en caso de una guerra nuclear. Aquí definimos si queremos a un personaje que cuando crezca sea fuerte y con buena condición física, carismático y elocuente, ágil y perceptivo, etc. Cuando tenemos 19 años nos despertamos con la noticia de que nuestro padre ha abandonado la bóveda y eso enojó a mucha gente. Como buenos hijos escapando de la muerte y exigiendo respuestas… hacemos lo mismo.

El resplandor del nunca antes visto sol nos recibe afuera junto con un panorama sepia, una región completamente muerta e irradiada. Y es que todo el mapa es así, han pasado 200 años desde que el mundo sufrió devastación por guerra nuclear y eso no es tiempo suficiente para que la tierra se recupere de la radiación. Sin embargo hay gente ahí afuera, que debe luchar todos los días por sobrevivir… y nosotros no somos una excepción.

El primer asentamiento que podemos encontrar es Megaton, un pueblo construido alrededor de una bomba atómica que cayó a tierra pero no detonó. Una decisión un tanto estúpida e irracional, sin embargo tiene una explicación si tenemos la paciencia para conversar con sus habitantes y aprender un poco de la historia del lugar. En este momento se nos presenta el primer side quest del juego y uno que nos ayudará a determinar si nuestro personaje salió de esa bóveda para ayudar o solo para terminar de ahogar la esperanza de los pocos que piensan que las cosas podrían mejorar.

Las opciones de dialogo son más variadas que en el juego anterior de Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, y en ciertas ocasiones se puede influenciar a la persona usando alguno de nuestros atributos o habilidades más fuertes. Como por ejemplo la fuerza para intimidar a alguien para que haga lo que deseamos o el conocimiento en Medicina para sacarle información a un doctor acerca de un paciente. Dependiendo de cómo llevemos el dialogo tendremos acceso a diferentes tipos de información. Muchas veces la manera de resolver una mision no necesariamente es hacer lo que nos dicen y eso es una parte atractiva de Fallout 3, todo evoluciona en una combinación de narrativa guiada y decisiones del jugador. Decisiones como liberar gente capturada por esclavistas nos da buen karma; comerse el cadáver de esos esclavistas para recuperar vida, podría hacer a los sobrevivientes alejarse un poco.

Pero no todo es explorar y buscar a nuestro fugitivo padre. Como buen RPG, el avance del personaje es tanto un método como un fin. Con cada nivel se reciben puntos para repartir en las diferentes habilidades disponibles (Medicina, Armas de Energia, Explosivos, Ciencia,etc) y se nos da a escoger un “perk” que es tambien una habilidad pero más detallada. De estas hay desde las más básicas pero útiles como Life Giver, que nos da 30 pts más de HP hasta las menos convencionales como Lady Killer que nos da un extra 10% de daño contra oponentes femeninos y además de eso abre opciones nuevas de dialogo al hablar con el sexo opuesto.

El combate en Fallout 3 es entretenido gracias al sistema VATS (Vaul-Tech Assisted Targeting System) este pausa el tiempo y nos permite apuntar a un area determinada las veces que podemos dispararle a un area o a varias depende de los Action Points con los que contemos. Una vez que se nos acaban debemos volver a la pelea pero en tiempo real, el cual es menos preciso y pulido que un shooter de verdad como Call of Duty 4. Aquí la mejor opción es la vista en primera persona, porque al igual que en Oblivion, en tercera persona los personajes parece que están patinando sobre el terreno. Una vez recargados los AP’s podemos volver a VATS -nada mejor que volarle la cabeza o una pierna a un Súper Mutante en cámara lenta-

Por momentos el combate se puede poner un poco predecible ya que la variedad de enemigos no es tan amplia, pero el arsenal si lo es. Armas de combate cuerpo a cuerpo como un bate de baseball o un mazo; de energía: Pistola de Plasma, Rifle laser; convencionales: rifle de asalto, escopeta; armas pesadas: Lanzallamas, Lanzacohetes o el Fat Man que dispara mini bombas nucleares (esta en particular se ve genial usándola con el VATS)

Pero lo que se nos queda en la mente cuando dejamos de jugar es el mundo de Fallout. La música, humor paranoico e iconografía de los años 50, cuando el mundo se encontraba en tensión por las bombas atómicas (especialmente en Estados Unidos). El hecho de poder irse por ahí, o por allá, la soledad que nos rodea con edificios destruidos, fabricas abandonadas y especialmente las misiones que algunas nos dejan con ese sentimiento de “eso está muy torcido, no lo voy a hacer” o que tienen resultados improvistos o incómodos.

Si nos ponemos a buscarle los errores al juego, por supuesto que los encontraremos, como la vista en tercera persona, gente muerta contestando un intercomunicador, un PNJ que no reacciona cuando a la persona de a la par le vuelan la cabeza con un sniper. Pero errores aparte el juego en si es ambicioso y sería un desperdicio no jugarlo. Y cuando lleguen a Megaton que escogerán? Ayudarle al Sheriff a desactivar la bomba nuclear en el centro del pueblo o instalarle un detonador e irse a una distancia segura?

Lelouch is NOT dead

Come on people you can call me a fanboy all you want but at least I took a moment to use my brain and analize everything that happened during the final chapter of Code Geass R2. And still 9 weeks later some of you still can’t get it through your hard heads.

He wouldn’t die without keeping his promise to CC… that was one promise he would never break

In the first episode of the first season, when CC was shot in the head, Lulu touched her hand and was able to have a vision of things that had happened and the contract. Present day after Suzaku “kills” him, Nunally touched his brother’s hand and saw what he had planned.

Jeremiah would have never agreed with a plan that involved killing the person that gave his life purpose and meaning. And he knew all the secrets of the Geass thanks to the cult.

When CC is talking while lying on top of the hay cart, she tilts her head back a bit and raises her voice saying “right Lelouch?” obviously talking to the cart driver.

Don’t know what other proof you want… maybe the fact that Lelouch Lamperouge might be R2 since the L in Japan is pronounced like an R. Thus the title of the season having the R2 at the end because Lelouch becomes immortal and able to provide a geass, like CC or C2 how they called her.

Bottom line: Lulu and CC are having sex freely in the country side.

La ley del Vigilante

Bueno ha pasado un buen rato desde que escribí por ultima vez acá y por eso me disculpo antes mis miles de lectores alrededor del mundo -es engañado-

Disculpa dada me muevo hacia el tema de hoy que es acerca de la ley el vigilante. Si lo primero que se les viene a la mente es Batman pues van por buen camino. Un vigilante no tiene jurisdicción y rompe las reglas para capturar y dar juicio personal a criminales y a como están las cosas creo que eso debería darse en este país. Actuar ante la percepción de una respuesta ineficaz e insuficiente de las autoridades.

Aquí los que estamos detrás de las barras somos nosotros los ciudadanos ya que las leyes parecen proteger a los asesinos, asaltantes, ladrones en general. Cometen robos y los dejan libres a los dos días… 27 arrestos y liberaciones después finalmente cometen asesinato, algo que se hubiera prevenido si lo hubieran dejado en la cárcel a la primera. Y es que la mayoría de los casos son así, una persona con antecedentes que nunca han podido dejar preso por más de 3 días termina matando a alguien. Un ciudadano toma la ley en sus manos y defiende su casa matando al intruso y en ese caso si llega la policía, se lo lleva y lo encierran no se cuanto tiempo.

Hace poco hubo uno de esos ejemplos en el que un hombre muy bien conocido por la policía le disparó a un niño como de 9 o 10 años para robarle unas monedas… y es que todos se sienten hombrecitos cuando andan armados, pero no son más que un montón de cobardes que merecen ser castigados como se debe.

Yo en ese caso apoyo más la ley de Moisés: Ojo por ojo…

Countdown to the Future part 2

Well it seems like the experiment with the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) has been moved to mid August, so let us talk a bit more about the underground wonder that will most likely revolutionize the technological future of our planet... or destroy it, either way it will be fun.
So civilizations new "Rosetta stone" was born in 1982 and has been funded through out the years by international collaboration. More than £5 billions have been spent on its development, as usual there are those who criticize spending so much money on a project that interests only a minority, but they do not understand the importance of where this might lead humanity. And well, if they want to talk about money... a lot more is spent maintaining the war in Irak for a few months, and this is true, whether they like it or not.
Even though I mentioned something about the destruction of the world, this is not likely to happen. The possibility of accidentally creating a black hole that will make us implode is out of the question, and has already been ruled out by the people at CERN. Alas, we could have been set adrift to another dimension...
I now include the words of Lawrence Krauss, professor of physics and astronomy at an University in Ohio.

"Cathedrals were designed to celebrate the glory of God as manifested through the human spirit in words, music and art. The LHC has been engineered to celebrate and proclaim the glory of the natural world, and of our remarkable ability to comprehend it, as manifested through experimental science.
Science, like great art, music or literature, compels us to reassess our place in the universe - to question where we come from, and where we are going. To turn our back on these questions is to dismiss our cultural inheritance. We should thus consider continuing our explorations of the universe as a cultural imperative."

High school students these days might not study about the aqueducts in ancient Rome, but one hopes they will still marvel from the ability of those ancient civilizations to apply their knowledge to their needs, thus creating wondrous cities and governing systems. Let us hope the LHC will be a part of our legacy for future generations.

Code: Free Will

Humanity has always needed guidance. A figure to blindly rely on, either by power or faith. Most of the people in this world appear as feeble sheep without any ambition, and the ones that try to make a difference end up being ignored or stripped of their ideals by those sitting at the "top".

This world is sick, not only environmentally, but politically. We have reached a point in which decisions are taken not for the good of the people, but for the good of a single person. We rely on politicians because we do not have other options. Democracy itself might be deceiving. Socialism or Capitalism, no matter the system, they follow the same end: making rich, powerful people even more wealthy at the expense of us, their priceless and foolish little pawns.

I must now write about a certain TV show called Code Geass. An anime in which main character and former heir to the throne of Britannia, Lelouch, takes revenge against his own empire amidst the hostile environment of repression that has been imposed in the once called land of Japan. His weapon: a powerful ability called Geass, capable of making the target follow any order given, thoroughly and without hesitation. Quite useful indeed.

My conclusion: If the greater good can be achieved by taking away the free will of the people and specially the one of those with power; even going against the "gift" that was granted by "God"...so be it!

Countdown to the Future

It's amazing how many people are ignorant of the existence of CERN. The European Organization for Nuclear Research has been responsible of scientific breakthrough since it's foundation in 1954. I would not be writing this if not for them, since the World Wide Web was born within the walls, and tunnels, of the facility.
Anyway, I am honored that the most ambitious project has my age. Twenty five years ago it began, and now between June and July this year will make it's prime time debut. The project that may reveal to us the truth behind dark matter and cosmic dimensions; of why matter won out over anti matter.
The LHC (Large Hadron Collider), being the world's biggest particle smasher, will create a simulated Big Bang that will, hopefully provide answers on how our Universe was created and what "cogs" make it turn. Including the hypothesis of the Higgs Particle.
Why is this important for World Domination? You will find out in a near future... for now, let's just sit back and enjoy the show of physics.

Seamos "Heroes"

Lo que he visto de Heroes (1 temporada y 7 capitulos) me ha puesto a pensar

como seria en realidad el mundo si tuvieramos habilidades especiales.
Regeneracion, vuelo, telepatia, etc. Siempre vemos en las historias a heroes combatiendo a sus respectivos villanos... y es que a esto no le podemos llamar cliche, porque veamos la naturaleza humana... somos todos egoistas. Como usariamos estos dones? El tipo de habilidad dictaria nuestra forma de ser? por ejemplo alguien que use la pyrokinesis (control de fuego) tendria una conducta mas agresiva y destructiva que alguien con la habilidad de volar.
Lo que no cambia, creo yo, es nuestra determinacion... q tanto nos preocupamos por este mundo. Que estamos haciendo para salvarlo. O que podriamos hacer?
Se requerira algo drastico para que nos preocupemos más? Algun gran sacrificio que nos haga entrar en razon?
A mi en lo personal si me gustaria tener una habilidad asi...hmm para mi objetivo a gran escala me serviria mucho el de control mental, pero me gustaria tener uno de estos pyrokinesis, hydrokinesis o aerokinesis.
Aunque para hacer la diferencia no necesitamos de una.

... in Japan, on a May 7th of 1946, a company called Sony emerged. One year after WWII ended.
There is no need for me to point out how powerful it has become.
Forty nine years after its foundation... the Playstation was introduced to America, changing gamers live's (like mine). And it's succesor, the PS2, became the best console since it's birth in the year 2000. Battling difficult oponents such as the Gamecube and Xbox, it became the winner of the "war of consoles". Which made me proud of owning a PSX, PS2 and PSP. It won thanks to capability, third party titles, and affordability.
Along came their successor with a marching band... but the only thing it armed itself with was capability (it's a state-of-the-art console), making it easy for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii to take the lead this time.
I wonder what kind of destiny awaits the PS3... but I am sure today, as a Playstation fan, that this dissappointment I feel, is real.

The Power of Suggestion

You are in a room, or live with someone that is sick. As days go by everyone caught the cold or the virus, except you. The only difference is that you began thinking since the beggining that it would not affect you. Suggestion. The mind is very powerful. Try it out, just think you won't get sick long enough and hard enough and you won't. And then why not heal yourself of anything your body might have... just by using our head we are able to achieve many things.

Though it is debatable if a planet as complex and diverse as Earth could ever be successfully "dominated" by a single central authority in this way, the concept of global domination has long been a popular theme in both history and fiction. And history will be made to overcome fiction… you just sit back and await the inevitable.

If you are one of the 73.9% of people misguided by the title… no, it’s not about S&M tools. Making this clear I invite you to keep reading, if you suddenly lost interest then move along please and do not waste anymore time. Because like John Milton once said “time is the subtle thief of our youth”… ooops, sorry I got carried away.
Risk, Command and Conquer, Evil Genius… among others, can be considered valuable tools for practice and skill honing. Hell, even Monopoly (if u wanna take over the world a property at a time). As simple as that, just go to a game store and be the geek ruler of a scaled-down Earth (or Train Stations and Hotels)… remember, everything takes a step. The full scale scenario will arrive, just gotta be patient. Practice, practice, practice and soon those brave little plastic or pewter figures will become lethal combat war battalions whose enemies tremble at their very presence.
And please by all means let’s try to become familiar with futuristic weaponry and defense… seriously, we don’t want any alien race taking over the planet we fought so hard for.

Earth’s unavoidable subjugation is but a race. Us, the infamous competitors, must train, plan, gather intel, *play RPG’s, eat healthy (we wanna live to see it done, right?), cut grass to stock enough rupees… but most importantly: know how to use Google and Microsoft services for they are the strongest opponents out there. So learning about our enemy with the tools they provide to control us is the way to go! Do you really think Google Earth is something for us to play with and pin point our house, neighborhood or places we’ll never afford to visit? NO… I mean… think about it, the name implies their true intentions. And they have the nerve to use it instead of something more discreet like: Google GPS tool, or whatever. So attention all you plotting minds, heed my advice because knowing your rivals forges the path to triumph… and successful business agreements.
By the way if you are going to use Gil instead of Rupees be aware of the exchange rate:

*We can also play First Person Shooters, because you never know when you are going to need those skills and well, we all see in “first person” view… duh!

Unlike most world domination - hungry villains we see in movies or read on books (that want to rule the earth by destroying it [and thats 87% of the times according recent "evil lord surveys"]), our approach should be more intelligent. What good is Earth without its animals and plants... without the snow, rain or sleet... without the landscapes forged by the hand of Mother Nature, rivaled only by its own perfect complexity.

Selfishness drives mankind to its downfall. Lets think more about the original habitants of this planet and our descendants, and less on our mindless ambition for wealth. We dont need a few species of animals, we need all of them.

One thing is certain... we will pay the price with our lives. So lets try to do our best and contribute to diminish Global Warming! It's your responsability and mine!
